Falooda Facts

A falooda is a Mughlai Indian version of a cold dessert with noodles. It has origins in the Persian dish faloodeh, variants of which are there across West, Central, and South Asia. This article discusses the falooda facts.

Traditionally one can make it by mixing rose syrup, vermicelli, and sweet basil seeds with milk often served with ice cream.

Why is the name -Falooda? 

Falooda was there in the Indian subcontinent during the Moghul period.

Also, Falooda means ‘shred’ in idiomatic Hindustani and the name refers to the thin vermicelli noodles that are integral part of falooda.

In India, the vermicelli noodles are also known as falooda sev.

Which country first invents Falooda? 

Falooda originated centuries ago, in Persia.

From there, it traveled to South Asia with Persian merchants and rulers who invaded the region.

It is an essential taste of summer in many parts of South Asia.

Falooda was first there in Shiraz in Persia.

This territory is currently known as Iran.

Also, it is as far back as 400 BC.

Falooda is both a dessert as well as a drink. This is because you can not just sip it away. You have to spoon the edible ingredients as well such as falooda sev, jelly and nuts.
