The Besan Chilla Recipe
If you are about to have a complete protein-packed and energy-packed breakfast, there are pancakes of aromatic spiced gram flour, which is the Besan Chilla Recipe – a North Indian Cuisine.
This could be served with Indian Tea or chutney.
This recipe doesn’t require a plan ahead.
Just stir up the ingredients to make a batter, and pour it onto a hot griddle.
WHAT’S CHILLA?
These are basically sweet or savory pancakes made from variety of flours and sometimes even with lentils. These are also known as “PUDLA” and are mostly prepared from unleavened batter and so remain healthy.
FLOURS:
- Oats
- Semolina
- Millet
- Wheat
LENTILS:
- Chana dhal
- Moong dhal
- Mixed lentils
PREPARATION:
Besan Chilla means gram flour pancakes. These are nutritious, gluten free and vegan naturally.
This requires basic veggies like tomatoes and onions, however, to perk up the nutrition even more, you can also add, grated carrots.
Finely chopped baby spinach can also be added
- In a large mixing bowl take 1 cup Besan.
- add in turmeric, Ajwan and a little salt to taste.
- Put in ½ cup water or little more.
- mix with the help of whisk to form a smooth batter.
- rest the batter for 30 minutes or more so that Besan absorbs water and turns light.
- onion, tomato, coriander leaves, inch of ginger and 1 green chili are added
- stir well with the help of ladle and get to a flowing consistency batter.
- pour a ladleful of batter onto a hot tawa and spread gently.
- Sprinkle a tsp of oil over Chilla.
- allow to cook on medium flame.
- flip the Chilla and cook both sides.
- finally, fold the Besan Chilla and serve with green chutney.
