History of malnutrition
It includes deficiencies, excesses, or any kind of imbalances in a person’s body during the intake of energy. It occurs when your body doesn’t get enough nutrients because of a poor diet, problems with digestive conditions, or other diseases. If this remains untreated, this can lead to many disabilities. If any treatment is done, it should be completely based on underlying conditions that could replace the missing nutrients. Let us look into the history of malnutrition.
2 Broad Types:
Underweight: stunting, wasting, undernutrition, and micronutrient diseases
Overweight: Obesity and other NCDs (Non – Communicable Diseases)
All of these tell the entire history of malnutrition.
- STUNTING – low height for the age
- WASTING – low weight for the height
- UNDERNUTRITION – not getting enough nutrients
- MICRONUTRIENT DISEASES – conditions relating to chronic diseases
- OBESITY – grossly fat
- NCDs – due to the infectious agents
Foods to avoid malnutrition:
- Firstly , a plenty of fruits
- Secondly , a lot of vegetables
- Thirdly , excessive starch foods like:
- Fourthly , Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, milk, and dairy foods or non-dairy alternatives.
Effects of malnutrition:
- Firstly , muscle function
- Secondly, cardio-respiratory function
- Thirdly , gastrointestinal function
- Fourthly, immunity and wound healing
- Lastly , psychosocial effects
